Details

It’s the 20th Bath Fringe under the present cooperative committee, it’s 30 years since the first Bath Fringe, and 40 years since the first of the ‘Other Festivals’ which gave Bath the taste (and a monster reputation) for Alternative Arts Festivals. And, recession & funding collapse or no, Bath Fringe will be celebrating this fact, as well as celebrating dozens of artforms and hundreds of artists, in over 170 events over 17 days in the first flush of summer.

Highlights include:
Spiegeltent programme (May 27 – June 5) featuring:
Rory Bremner, Ska Cubano, Robyn Hitchcock, CW Stoneking, Tcha Limberger’s Budapest Café Orchestra, Mud Morganfield (and, of course, many more…)
Bedlam Sunday Street Arts Festival – June 5
Interventions – performance & arts in unusual places. Programme launched by legendary French provocateurs Cacahuète doing a mob-handed expanded version of their
FAB [Fringe Arts Bath] Fringe Visual Arts programme
Children’s Events
Outdoor Theatre in beautiful parks from Lord Chamberlain’s Men and local groups Full Sail Theatre and Bath Drama/Rondo Theatre.
More elusive artforms like storytelling, poetry, contemporary dance and improvised ‘happening’.
PopUp, a self-promote bands festival
Lots of other music – particularly strong in Contemporary Folk artists.
Glamorous Days & Nights Out with White Mink, The Secret Tea Party, Burlesque workshops & market.
The very-affordable Fringe Art Fair.
Lots of Comedy, lots of Student Theatre
Two Fringe Clubs
And a fair dose of the sort of things you’d only get at a Fringe Festival: … Guerilla knitting, gallery performances, impromptus, Circus Cabaret, shows in restaurants, web-based wonders…
