The Masked Ball, Beacon Cragg, Porthleven, Bank Holiday weekend May 4/5, 2013.
An amazingly-dressed crowd, a grand ballroom and a rabbit hole all set on an incredible cliff top location along with a smattering of the best party performers in the UK can mean just one thing – The Masked Ball is back.
The Masked Ball, considered by many to be one of the highlights of the southwest party calendar, has again pulled out the stops with no less than eight curated and themed arenas.
Providing the soundtrack for The Masked Ball are: Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (DJ set), Jack Beats, The Cuban Brothers, DJ Yoda, The Other Tribe, Adamski, Ben Pearce, Lee John and Karma Kid – along with more than 40 of Cornwall’s best tunesmiths.
Masked Ball organiser Kelvin Batt said: “We’ve really tried to up the production again so this year you can expect some real surprises and treats at The Masked Ball. We don’t want to give too much away but there’s a new area called Balls Deep, a huge Bedouin tent and a rabbit hole experience – as well as all the usual shenanigans. We’ve now programmed a proper Sunday line-up which is really exciting.â€
Headlining The Masked Ball is electronica artist Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (TEED). Stealing the DJ Magazine album of the year with Trouble has iced the cake for Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, in a year that saw TEED tour Mexico, Australia and the USA.
Masked Ball organiser Kelvin Batt said: “Getting Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs down is such a coup. They’ve been massive in 2012, touring the world and winning some amazing accolades for the debut album. It’s not often we get the chance to bring acts like this to The Masked Ball.â€
DJ Yoda, former DMC DJ of the Year and master video mixer, is listed as one of ‘ten DJs to see before you die’. Yoda’s mash-up style of mixing and scratching live visuals alongside choice tunes and themes from across the decades, has earned him a deserved cult following.
Jack Beats will be providing the wobbly basslines and big breakdowns, having previously worked with Beyonce and Example as well as producing their own dancefloor stormers.
Acclaimed producer and DJ Ben Pearce will be adding irresistible deep house and groove to the event.
Rave and house pioneer Adamski, fondly remembered for groundbreaking tracks N-R-G and Killer, appears on the bill, adding a degree of old school to the mix.
Electronica wizard Karma Kid has been confirmed for The Masked Ball, having made an impressive imprint on the UK dance scene with singles Try As You May and It’s Always.
Kelvin added: “We’re supporting two charities, Pants and Surfers Against Sewage, this year as well as the local Christmas lights appeal. We’re proud to say The Masked Ball is an independent festival, slowly built up over the years without any corporate sponsorship or backers and we pledge to support local business wherever possible.â€
Masked Ball favourites The Cuban Brothers and The Other Tribe will be returning to the melee, after storming performances at the Halloween Masked Ball.
This year The Masked Ball is introducing Super Sunday, a second day of music, entertainment and chilled vibes. The campsite has been improved with showers and a camp side café.
