A Cornish festival is breaking new boundaries in events by offering the first festival with venues linked by a train service.

The Masked Ball – a biannual event well conversed with outlandish production values – has called its newest theme Underworld offering thrill seekers a trip like none other.

Masked Ball director Kelvin Batt said: “This is a totally new concept in festivals. We’ve got two trains that will pick people up at the Masked Ball main station and transport them around a series of themed venues, where they can hop off where they like.”

Although in keeping with Masked Ball tradition, some of the venues are being kept hush – organisers have revealed that the venues will include a 1930s speakeasy club, a 1980s Brixton squat party and 1970s New York disco club.

Kelvin added: “This is a like a journey through a musical museum. You buy your ticket, take the ride and get off at a venue that takes your fancy.”

Aside from the venues on the magical mystery tour, will be the usual Masked Ball favourite party scenes.
The multi-chandeliered and draped Grand Ballroom is back along with The Terrace overlooking the spectacular Mount’s Bay. The Garden, with its twisting trees and vegetation, returns as does Balls Deep – a venue entered by a slide into a giant ballpool.

Seasoned Masked Ball attendees may also remember Bedlam – the venue accessed through a wardrobe where you were given night gowns and pyjamas to enter a maze of beds and cuddly toys.
“We’re taking the Masked Ball back to its roots,” said Kelvin. “We’re focussing on the event and shenanigans so we can immerse the ballers more in the surroundings.”
