Details

Bude & Stratton Folk Festival is small friendly and very welcoming. It is held in the picturesque surroundings of Bude and nearby Stratton in North Cornwall on the late May Bank Holiday weekend. The Festival always welcomes a wide range of talented guest performers. This year these include internationally known folk artists such as Jim Causley, Jackie Oates and Liam Robinson. We are delighted also to welcome school children from Bude Junior School, who will give a dance display on Saturday morning and local morris sides, who will be dancing during the weekend. Festival goers can participate in a variety of workshops, open mic stages, music sessions and sing arounds.

What happens?

Events, such as the showcase of local SW talent “the Cream of Cornwall and Devon” (hosted by Devon’s Jim Causley), the Barn Dance (with the Liam Robinson Dance Band), and the always popular Music Hall, will be held in the Ackland Suite of the Falcon Hotel. Other concerts, events and workshops will be held either in the Falcon Hotel or the Bude Rugby Club, where limited camping for season-ticket holders is available.

This friendly festival has always had a “joining-in” ethos. We are grateful to the strong core of friendly professional artists, who do just that outside of their formal events. But we encourage everyone’s participation. There are workshops each day for musicians and singers of all abilities and a special concert on Monday will showcase some these. Also Liam Robinson (of the Mini Morris project) will lead a free junior dance workshop on Saturday for children of primary school age.

Daily open mic opportunities are available at the church with its wonderful acoustics. This is also a great venue to listen, for free, to the wide range of talent the festival attracts and have a coffee and home made cake or a light bite lunch in support of church funds.

The Rugby Club is the home for singers. There will be a Folk Club evening and a number of ‘sing arounds’ as well as late night sings, workshops and informal gatherings. Music sessions in the Falcon and other local venues also encourage participants.

How can you take part?

The festival offers both weekend tickets and individual event tickets at very fair prices. Tickets via the website http://www.budefolkfest.com/ or call 07736 374003. Camping, for weekend season ticket holders only, will be available on the Rugby Club site. Local campsites and accommodation can be found through Bude TIC.
