Details

The festival will be held on the weekend of 18th & 19th August 2018 and we are hosting a great weekend for chilli enthusiasts, food lovers and families. Held at Powderham Castle on the Exe Estuary, we'll line up a chillin’ and grillin’ weekend of barbecues and chillies, spices and rubs, with stalls selling chilli sauces, chilli plants, rubs, spices, oils and marinades. Plus we’ll have cooking demonstrations; talks on barbecue techniques and growing chillies; artisan food producers; music; international street food; a chilli cook-off, a barbecue competition and of course chilli-eating competitions. Hate hot spices? Don’t worry; we’ll have plenty for you too! Come and join us at this fun, friendly festival!

We'll have the chilli-con-carne cook-off, run by the UK Chilli Cook-off Association, open to pre-registered teams to battle it out for the Devon title and a place at the national finals (Sunday only; why not enter a team?). We've got a chilli eating competition at 4.00pm of both days; are you brave enough to enter? Think you’re a bit of a barbecue expert? Prove it in our barbecue competition! Plus the public get a chance to judge our chilli sauce competition! This will be a great day out for BBQ enthusiasts, chilli lovers and families. We have some great producers from the area and further afield showcasing their condiments, chilli plants & seeds; chutneys, hot sauces, chilli chocolate, relishes, pickles and oils.

So this is a food festival, not a music festival, but we’ll have live music all day to listen to whilst sipping a local pint of ale or cider, as the aroma of a low ‘n’ slow barbeque drifts across the lawn.

But if you don’t like it hot or you’re not in to meat, there’s plenty of choice from the stallholders. Artisan bakers, vegetarian & vegan food, cheeses, chocolates, jams, garlic, chilli ginger beer, local ice cream, wooden boards and smart kitchen knives, ironwork, ethnic clothes and bags, ceramics, artwork..............
