Friday Night The Wurzels Saturday Night 2Rude

THE Wurzels have been confirmed as one of the headline acts at a beer, cider and music festival happening in Somerset this summer.

Fans of the band will be able to see them perform on Friday, July 21 at Gumbeerfest, which takes place at the Cricket Club in Stogumber near Taunton.

James Weetch, one of the organisers of the event, said: “We are absolutely delighted to announce that The Wurzels will be headlining Gumbeerfest for a third year.

“The band is always really popular and as the festival celebrates the many ale and cider producers the West Country has to offer, what better way to kick it off than with one of the region’s best loved bands.

“In addition to The Wurzels there will be music from Wellington-based, dance and contemporary pop band FILTA and six piece cover band Evolution.

“But it’s not just about the music, we will also have a selection of more than 40 different ales and ciders for people to try.”

Gumbeerfest, which is in its eighth year, is an annual music and beer festival.

It takes place on Friday, July 21 from 6pm until 12.30am and Saturday, July 22 from noon until 1am within the grounds of Stogumber Cricket Club.

The event, primarily the major annual fundraiser for the cricket club, also donates monies to good causes in the area.

James added: “We have some fantastic music lined up for the Saturday too, so people will want to make sure they get themselves a weekend ticket.

“Seven piece ska group 2Rude will be headlining and other confirmed acts include The Bail Jumpers, who will play a variety of rock and blues tracks, Palmerston and the king of rock and roll, Mark ‘Elvis’ Nixon.

“In addition to this we will have a range of activities on Saturday afternoon to keep our younger festival-goers busy including entertainment from children’s entertainer Mr Phil, representatives from ‘That Little Craft Shop’ will be on site offering a range of free and paid for craft activities and there will be face painting, a bouncy castle and gladiator joust.

“The Gumbeerfest Beer Pong Championship will also be back for a second year and singer/songwriter James Lainey will provide musical entertainment during the day.”

Volunteers from Crowcombe and Stogumber Primary School’s Crumbs Parent Teacher Association will be running a tea and cake stall to raise money for the schools.

A Pimms and prosecco bar will also be available on Saturday afternoon.

James added: “We will also have a range of delicious food available during the festival including pizza from Stone Artisan Pizzas, vegetarian dishes from Broomsquire, grill and BBQ food from The Smoke Ring and The Hungry Tiger will be serving authentic Thai curry.”
