About

Emma Johnson (clarinet), Katya Apekisheva (piano), Litsa Tunnah (violin), Jack Hancher (guitar), ZRI, Rossetti Ensemble, Hertford Chamber Choir

This is a festival that celebrates live classical music in Hertfordshire with a rich and diverse programme of events and outreach projects that explore the connection between music and art. We aim to bring together local art and music enthusiasts through inspiring talks and creative musical programmes. We also mark the coronation of King Charles III with two special events in Hertford.

We are honoured to have Emma Johnson, one of the world’s finest clarinettists, as our Principal Artist, performing a captivating recital with the talented pianist Gregory Drott. There is also a special opportunity to observe her artistic insight in a masterclass for young and aspiring players at the beautiful Queenswood School.

We welcome back ZRI to entertain us with their innovative and exciting ‘Cellar Sessions’ at the McMullen Courtyard. Guitarist Jack Hancher will also return to Hertford with a solo recital of music inspired by art. Pianist Katya Apekisheva performs one of the warhorses of art-inspired music in her first visit to HFoM and Festival newcomer, Litsa Tunnah, shares her passion for music and colour in a recital with pianist Daniel Grimwood. We are also delighted to present the Rossetti Ensemble, who will perform music by David Matthews as well as a Piano Quartet by HFoM Artistic Director James Francis Brown.

To celebrate the coronation, Hertford Chamber Choir and Manvinder Rattan will present a special performance at All Saints’ Church, featuring exquisite solo works for organ played by William Whitehead. Our HFoM Community Concert Band get things off to a flying start, giving a relaxed outdoor performance of music associated with royalty at a community event in the grounds of Hertford Castle on May 7.

Taking place between 9 - 16 June 2023, the Festival offers many free events and discounted ticket prices, so book soon and join us for an unforgettable celebration of music and art!
