Kenwood House, Hampstead Heath

The world's leading thinkers, scientists, artists and politicians join an outrageously funny cast of comedians and the hottest bands in town.

The world's largest philosophy and music festival, HowTheLightGetsIn, returns to the heart of London from 21st-22nd September. Hidden away on the top of Hampstead Heath in the stately grounds of Kenwood House, the festival will bring together the world's leading thinkers and a spectacular medley of musicians, performers and artists for one magical weekend. Expect a fleeting oasis of ideas and imagination... There's just no other place like it!

The first round of debates has just been revealed, with many more announcements on their way. Centred around the theme of 'Uncharted Territory', the debates cast an inquisitive look at the mysterious and exciting new vistas opening up before us.

They include 'Adventures in Space', on the new age of space exploration pioneered by billionaires and by the governments of India and China; 'Post Truth and New Lies', on the rise of fake news and the possibility of an overall truth; and 'The Strange World', on the presence of paradox in our most fundamental theorems, from quantum mechanics to set theory.

Confirmed speakers include journalist Joanna Gosling, Conservative MP Rory Stewart, economist Mariana Mazzucato, philosopher Slavoj Zizek, broadcaster Emma Barnett, cosmologist Martin Rees, onetime Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis, and many more.

Once the sun sets, though, the festival site transforms into a beat-driven paradise, staging the hottest bands on the planet alongside a fiendishly good cast of stand-up comics. Expect Platinum-selling singer-songwriter Nerina Pallot, iconic DJ and Reggae godfather Don Letts, whimsical electroswing duo Sam and the Womp, and many more, alongside professional jokesters armed with material fresh from Edinburgh Fringe, including Tony Law, Olga Koch, Alfie Brown and Sophie Duker.
