The Manchester Food and Drink Festival is a nationally acclaimed event as the UK's largest urban food and drink festival that for 2017 is celebrating it's astonishing 20th anniversary. Conceived and developed by Phil Jones and Chris Tomlinson in 1998, the event originated as a means of showing the rest of the nation that there was more to Manchester dining than the stereotypes that existed at the time.

In the 19 annual Festivals that have taken place over that time, the Festival has achieved a national status & will return for 2017 between 28th September - 9th October.

MFDF centres around the Festival Hub in Albert Square. But as an urban food and drink festival, there is no single location, rather the Festival takes over as much of the City Centre and surrounding districts of Greater Manchester as possible, with a huge programme of events taking place, both indoor and outdoor.

Over the years the Festival has drawn names as diverse as Nadiya Hussain, Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay, Bill Wyman and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall.

This year, headline events at the Festival Hub include Deliciously Ella's first ever pop-up banquet outside London, BBC's Kate Goodman hosting a Beer and Wine pairing masterclass with Manchester brewing legends, Cloudwater, Matt Nutter from Allotment is hosting a six-course vegan tasting menu and Simon Shaw from El Gato Negro is throwing a Spanish pop-up feast!

This very special 20th anniversary edition will also feature the Birthday Banquets series at the spectacular Mayfield Depot - including a Day of the Dead themed Mexican banquet with Thomasina Miers, a huge banquet-come-party collaboration between Hispi and the Unabombers (of Volta and The Refuge) and a joint birthday bash Tampopo, who turn 20 this year too!

Full information on events is available at as well as links to buy tickets. And there are more events being announced all the time!

The Festival culminates with the legendary Manchester Food and Drink Festival Gala Dinner and Awards, where the most prestigious food and drink awards in the City are announced.
