Details

Solarsphere offers value for money! A small, boutique, family friendly festival promoting 'looking up' at the sky above and discovering the wonders of the Universe via informal practical activities (weather permitting) such as solar observing where you can check out the activity of our Sun (our local star)!, night time Astronomy where if clear, you can look through volunteers telescopes (or bring your own if you have one) and also view the Perseid Meteor showers (last year they were fabulous and someone commented it was like something from a Disney film)!

Aside from the practical opportunities, there are many talks from wonderful Scientists who will speak about various aspects of the Universe and you will have chance to ask questions at the end of each talk if you so wish. Don't be afraid to ask anything, that's what it's all about, people sharing knowledge and helping one another to learn!

There is live music throughout the day and night from bands very worthy of being heard! We don't book big famous bands, we can't afford to being a 'ickle festival, however, we provide a platform for the bands of the future... there's no better place to see great music than a small festival, so much more intimate and with band members wondering around the venue, you can buy their CD's if you like them and go and get autographs... it's a friendly place where people are accessible! and don't forget... FRIDAY night is 'let your hair down' night where we hold a fancy dress competition with the theme always being SciFi and Music!, so come as your favourite artist or character, have fun and you might even win a small prize! (fancy dress is optional but the more that join in, the more laughs we have)!

In addition to all the above, there are space related and art & craft activities for the young (and young at heart). Most of these are free of charge. You can get involved with things such as our Voyager storyboard workshop, making and launching paper rockets, joining our choir where you will learn a few space related songs ready to do a short performance on the Sunday!, making planet mobiles, nebulae in a jar, plus more.... there will be plenty of little 'souvenirs' for you to take home!

Camping is free whether you bring a tent, caravan or campervan. We just ask that you are respectful of others and camp sensibly! BRING A TORCH! and bring a RED LIGHT TORCH too if you are planning on using the field where the telescopes are as white light interferes with quality observing and imaging and is therefore not permitted in this area. If you are camping in this field, red light will be needed in your tents etc too. these items are easily found on the likes of Ebay :) By adhering to this simple Astronomy etiquette, it makes for a better quality experience of seeing the night sky, so thank you in advance! :)

Please check our website for further details and familiarise with the event, what's on and what to bring etc... we just want to make sure it's as hassle free as possible for everyone and if you need to ask a question that isn't covered in the info given, don't hesitate to contact us! email me personally if you so wish: sarah.stagefright@gmail.com.

Disabled Facilities

venue is all on one level with plenty of room. toilets and shower available for wheelchair users. Camping area is hilly in places so assistance would be sensible in these areas.
