Man, they'll put it to you like an ol' steam drill...
For three days every July the town comes alive to the infectious sounds of boogie woogie thanks to the UK International Boogie Woogie Festival!

A packed programme
The UK International Boogie Woogie Festival is the only one of its kind in the UK that honours this vibrant and exciting musical genre. Now in it’s thirteenth year, this year’s festival takes place on the 7th – 9th July. Artists from all over the UK and Europe descend on the town to play a packed programme of concerts. Headliners include , Christian Bleiming (Germany), Nirek Mokar from France and currently wowing Paris, Neville Dickie (UK) and the dynamic Henri Herbert (UK) , Big John Carter and Dorset’s own Julian Phillips.. Not to forget the brilliant dancers Jelly Germaine and Caroline Podetti. Great ragtime is played by Mike Denham and on vocals the legend Hamish Maxwell. All this backed up by a great band.
What makes this festival special is the fact the music is not restricted to the main concert venues. Cafes, tea rooms, pubs, the market square, even the town’s mill and church hold boogie woogie sessions throughout the weekend. Some of these sessions are timetabled, others are just spur of the moment ‘happenings’. So keep your eyes and ears peeled!
It’s not just about listening to music either. There are workshops, masterclasses, talks and several different dance workshops available. This year there is a separate Swing Dance. All of this goes towards making this festival so intimate, inclusive and family friendly. Growing bigger and better each year it brings joy to thousands of fans (many of which have been coming since the first festival 13 years ago).
