The Wilkswood Reggae Festival, taking place from Friday 14th to Sunday 16th July 2017, is a small, family-friendly live music festival in the middle of the beautiful Purbeck countryside, bringing together over 40 reggae and ska artists, soundsystems, deejays, selectors, acoustic acts, comedians and poets across three stages.
The Main Stage lineup features an compelling mix of genuine reggae legends - including Brinsley ‘Aswad’ Forde, Tippa Irie, Janet ‘Silly Games’ Kay and Mad Professor - alongside fresh, modern torch-bearers like roots rockers Dubheart, ska sorcerers Bombskare, the world fusion of Afro Tallawah and pioneering producer Prince Fatty.

The Selector Stage brings together some of the country’s mightiest soundsystem setups (imagine the deep bass rhythms of Notting Hill Carnival relocated to the great outdoors) and includes Mikey Dread’s majestic Channel One Sound, the heavyweight dancehall of Bristol’s Unique Star and the live percussive dub of Gavin ‘Fullness’ Sant.

The DJ Derek Memorial Stage - named in honour of the legendary Bristolian DJ who sadly passed away last year - will be showcasing an eclectic mix of soundsystems, selectors, deejays, acoustic acts and spoken word artists. Already confirmed is 18 year old selector (and Lily Allen favourite) Ted at the Controls, Scottish poet and wordsmith Elvis Mcgonagall and ‘The John Peel of Reggae’, DJ Dapper Dan.

As well as a compelling and varied lineup of live acts, the Festival will feature a Kid’s Zone, featuring story telling, lessons in pottery, stone carving and jewellery making, bushcraft skills and even a cinema showing family favourites. There will also be a couple of after-hours fire-pit areas for winding down into the small hours once the little ones are safely tucked up.

The festival will have several street food stalls creating a heady blend of mouthwatering tastes and smells from around the globe, including the genuine Jamaican cuisine of the Jerkshak (jerk chicken, curry goat, rice and peas, callaloo, patties, akee and saltfish), Purbeck Paella’s to-die-for Spanish dishes, wood-fired pizzas, the Wilkswood Farm barbecue, amazing vegetarian and vegan food and mouth-watering crêpes from the Lush Creperie.

The Main Barn Bar will be serving ice cold Red Stripe, Purbeck Cider and real ales from the Dorset Brewing Company as well as a wide range of wines and spirits. New this year is the RumShak Bar, serving rum cocktails, adult ‘slush’ drinks and fresh juices. Blandford’s Grounded Coffee will also be bringing their own brand of café culture - all served from a vintage 1976 Land Rover Series III - to this year’s festival.
Tickets are priced at a very reasonable £80 for full adult festival admission and three nights camping (including camper vans, caravans and parking). To encourage families, it’s just £40 for under-17s, £10 for under-13s & under-3s go FREE!
